Fostering Inclusivity: Reflecting on the Mindful Scholar Event

On March 28, 2023, AstroNoir and the UCL Earth Sciences Ethnic Diversity Network joined forces to host the highly successful Mindful Scholar Event. This thought-provoking gathering brought together a diverse group of 8 individuals from various backgrounds, including students, professors, and industrial professionals.

During the event, we explored the importance of mental health, well-being in academia, and the significance of representation within the scientific community. Building on this success, we are delighted to announce an ongoing collaboration between AstroNoir and the UCL Earth Sciences Ethnic Diversity Network, with a series of inclusive events planned throughout the year.

Reflecting on the Mindful Scholar Event

The Mindful Scholar Event reaffirmed our shared commitment to fostering inclusivity and embracing diversity within the STEAM community. We prioritized creating a safe and inclusive space by respecting participants' privacy, and therefore, no photography was conducted. Participants engaged in enlightening discussions, sharing their experiences, challenges, and ideas for promoting a more supportive and equitable environment. The event highlighted the need for greater representation and recognition of diverse voices across scientific disciplines.

Embracing Collaboration for Change

In light of the Mindful Scholar Event's success, AstroNoir and the UCL Earth Sciences Ethnic Diversity Network are excited to announce an ongoing collaboration. Together, we will organize a series of inclusive events throughout the year, providing opportunities for meaningful conversations, networking, and knowledge sharing. By combining our efforts, we aim to effect positive change within the scientific community and create an environment that celebrates and amplifies diverse perspectives.
