About the Event
In positional astronomy, two astronomical objects are said to be in opposition when they are on opposite sides of the celestial sphere, as observed from a given body (usually Earth). A planet (or asteroid or comet) is said to be "in opposition" when it is in opposition to the Sun. Jupiter reaches opposition on July 14, 2020, at about 08:00 UTC, and comes closest to Earth on July 15, 2020, at about 10:00 UTC. Pluto reaches opposition on July 15, 2020, at about 19:00 UTC, and comes closest to Earth on July 13, 2020, at about 09:00 UTC.Â
